Le Grand Bleu

Enzo was a true lover of the sea. Diving invigorated and renewed him. He was going to dive again. He was responding to an invitation which had been signed in sea grasses and sealed with corals.

He dived deeper and deeper. After reaching a certain depth, it dawned on him that God had been more generous under water, had been generous to a fault. At last Enzo knew why storms raged over the seas. The seas were hiding their treasures and the storms were there to guard them from mankind.

As Enzo dived deeper he became mesmerized by what he saw. In the silence of the glasslike depth he became even more intertwined in this ultramarine world where the serpentine of lights and colors had astounded the fish to silence. A fish came from the depths and took Enzo by the hand. The corals drew apart to open a path, the anemones with their mystic colors broke out in song. The sea began to murmur softly and reveal its secrets. The sea showered him with huge diamonds, pearls and amphoras covered in moss and opened it’s chest of treasures. The darkness drifted away as every hue of blue was reflected.

Enzo was intoxicated by this song sung to him only. It was the song of the depths. Suddenly Enzo realized what was happening to him. He had been blessed with a glimpse of heaven. It was time to ascend and wake from this dream. Enzo emerged from the water. For a long time he kept the secret of this heaven to himself. He wanted to have a secret that was his only. But in time he realized he was being selfish. Everyone deserved to have such a dream short though it may be.

Enzo made up his mind. He dipped his brush into blue for the seas, into glitter for the diamonds and pearls, into gold for treasures and revealed LE GRAND BLEU”
